Oh, yes. The wonderful world of online gaming, where hackers and cheat bots run wild! But, we're not talking about your traditional PC hacks....
In a mind-boggling display of buffoonery, four Spanish sim racing pros have found themselves in hot water, boiling like a pot of paella, over a new cheating scandal rocking the GranTurismo World Series. While the exact details are murkier than a cup of day-old café con leche, it seems these racers were playing a game of digital musical chairs, logging into each other's accounts to race under false identities. Their master plan? To shake up the high-stakes races that determine manufacturer rankings—by giving their buddies a boost, throwing a banana peel in front of their rivals, or simply shrinking the points pie through strategic finish-line shenanigans—all to turbocharge their brand’s shot at the live events.
The fabulous four we're talking about are none other than ex-GT World Series Manufacturers Cup champ Mateo Estevez, who probably has a trophy room bigger than your house; Martin Marza, who seems to think three GTWS finals are just a warm-up; Karl Etyemezian, who raced his way into the Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup finals faster than you can say "vroom"; and a mysterious 17-year-old Spanish speedster whose name is under wraps because, well, they're still waiting for their first legal sip of sangria!
Etyemezian and the young whippersnapper had their scores wiped clean for all four rounds, like a toddler with a new coloring book. Meanwhile, Estevez and Marza got a partial score makeover, losing some rounds but not all. These four musketeers seem to be part of the same esports crew, GTSpain92, which quickly claimed, “We know nothing!” before showing Etyemezian the virtual door. Update: GTSpain92 has now decided to give all four players the boot, probably with a swift kick in the pixels!
It's a bit of a mystery whether Polyphony Digital will give the players a slap on the wrist or just a stern look, but one thing's for sure: the Fantastic Four are now benched from the 2025 live events. Meanwhile, Renault is hanging out in 12th place, hoping to pull a last-minute Houdini act and qualify with just one round left after today's racing shenanigans.
They won't be pulling that crap again.
