Born in 1925, Marty Robbins began practicing and learning guitar while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. Being stationed in the Solomon Islands during this time, Marty Fell in love with Hawaiian music.

After leaving the Navy in 1947, Marty would go on to play local shows in Arizona. Later moving on to host his own local radio and TV shows in the Phoenix area.

A career spanning 34 years, Marty would go on to be famous for his appearances at Nashville's Grand Ol Opry. Releasing multiple albums finding success, he is known to this day for hits such as "Big Iron" and "El Paso"

But, as with all successful people, Marty needed something to spend his money on. And as true as it is today, Racing was expensive back then. Being a lover of NASCAR, Marty would use his wealth from his music career to self fund his racing.

Racing a Magenta and Chartreuse 1964 Ford, Marty Robbins made his racing debut at the 1966 Nashville 400. Qualifying 17th and finishing 25th, his first race proved to be a rough one, running only 100 of the 400 laps due to an oil leak.

Marty would end his NASCAR cup series career in 1982, taking home no wins, no championships, but 6 top ten finishes.

Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Grand National East Series, and the ARCA series, He would total 7 top tens.

Maybe not a career to remember, but keep in mind, this man started racing while also being one of the biggest Country Western musicians of all time.

With a resume people would kill for, Marty Robbins will always be remembered as a true American. Singer/Songwriter, NASCAR driver, Veteran.
